K Wendt was born in a Texas town two hours from Corpus Christi, but when she was 11 years old, her family moved to west Texas. The youngest of three children, she has one brother and one sister.
She met her husband in choir class during her freshman year at Sul Ross State University, and the two married when she was 19. When her first child was born, she decided to become a stay-at-home mom, but as the children grew older, she worked here and there at places like Mother's Day Out, schools, a bank, and a shoe store. Wendt said she experienced enough of life as a preacher's wife to determine it is a role suited for other women, but she believes God has something else in store for her.
She has been writing since she was in high school, starting with lyrics and poems. Her first idea for an adult book came to her in about 2002 and is still being written. Through the years, her writing has been put aside and then briefly picked up again, but in the Spring of 2013, the idea for Duney came to her and she said she had to see it through, especially when her son, Monte, agreed to illustrate it, which she said meant the world to her, noting he did an excellent job.
Since then, Wendt said Duney has inspired her to continue chasing her desire to write, and that she will finish that adult novel soon. In the meantime, she has published her fourth children's book, Billy, and said she can't wait for her readers to meet her main character
